In parallel with the S.T.N.E. catalog book, our team had the opportunity to help redesign and develop a new e-commerce website for S.T.N.E—and this one felt especially meaningful to us.
Furniture maker, Tokuhiko Kise’s books (Making Truck, and TRUCK Nest) have lived on our shelves since the start of our studio—they have often been sources of inspiration for us. Even after ten years, the memories from our first visit to the TRUCK showroom have never quite left us but have become the foundation for how we approached the S.T.N.E. website.
Years ago, as we were standing in his Osaka showroom, Tok talked about each furniture piece, but it was never the joinery or the making process that stayed with us. Rather, it was the story behind it.
Within every piece of furniture designed for S.T.N.E. lies an honest story of discovery, serendipity and humour. And while the furniture is of the highest quality and construction, these stories and insights from Tok add even greater value and meaning.
This insight led us to take a less conventional approach to the design of the website, placing a primary focus on storytelling and letting the furniture pieces speak for themselves.
